74mpg Peugeot with Reduced Emissions to go on Sale

Posted by: Editor

Peugeot is to launch a new low-emissions version of its 207 hatchback, capable of returning an average fuel consumption of 74mpg.

The 207 Economique is available in October and pricing starts at £12,995. Buyers are set to enjoy low running costs and its 99g/km C02 rating means owners will not have to pay road tax.

It comes in three- and five-door versions and will be powered by a 1.6 litre HDi 90bhp diesel engine. Two trims are available: Economique and Economique+.

First shown at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, it also gets the updated exterior and interior styling changes on the new 207 range.

Standard specification includes unique aerodynamic styling pack, 15" steel wheels with 'aero' trims, black instrument dials, lion grey interior door handles, black body-side mouldings and black door handles.

Inside, there's passenger seat height adjustment, reach and rake steering adjustment and electric front windows. The Economique+ adds air-conditioning and electrically operated/heated door mirrors.

Peugeot's engineers have spent a lot of their time improving the aerodynamics of the 207 to achieve a reduction in drag. The ride-height has been lowered by 5mm and there's also a special flexible lower bumper trim with deeper side extensions.

The Economique also includes an under-tray covering either side of the exhaust system and the fuel tank, special aerodynamic wheel trims and a two-part rear spoiler with side extensions which wrap around the rear windscreen.

Low rolling resistance tyres and a gearshift indicator to help drivers achieve the lowest possible fuel consumption have been fitted.
